Putting the Issue to Rest

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

I know it's been a while since I've posted on here, but this is a very important topic and something that I feel strongly about.

I returned home from work tonight to find a wonderful looking BBQ Chicken Salad waiting for me on the counter (or Mom had just forgot to put it away, not sure which one). After working all night I was hungry and eagerly put a forkful of salad into my mouth. As the textures and tastes started to fill my mouth, I found myself gagging as I contemplated the embarrassment (for Mom at realizing her daughter's poor manners) of spitting the food back into the bowl OR enduring the overpowering taste of CILANTRO and forcing myself to swallow it. That's right. Mom had put CILANTRO in the salad. Barf.

I caused a big scene, Mom asked Brianne if I could move in with her instead, and Mom shouted at me, "IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD!"

Comments like this, while hurtful and accusatory, have been thrown at me for years. I have ignored them, but no more. I had to get to the bottom of this problem. And I am happy to say that I now have a diagnosis. It is called cilantrophobia. It is a real issue, that real people have to deal with every day. At least every day they are confronted with Mexican or Indian food.
Here she is in all her disgusting glory.

After doing a little research, I found some very interesting information. The New York Times (yes, THE New York Times) wrote an article called "Why Cilantro Tastes like Soap, for Some" with a subtitle of "Cilantro Haters, It's not Your Fault". You can find the article here. The great Julia Child is a cilantro hater.

NPR also wrote an article about the Cilantro problem called, "Getting To The Root Of The Great Cilantro Divide", article found here.

There is a whole community of people just like me who have joined together at www.ihatecilantro.com

I know that this information may come as a shock to many of you. It is not, as a matter of fact, "in my head". It is in my genes. I am predisposed to not like cilantro. It is now that I ask all of you treat this disease as you would any other disease. I am sure that if I was diagnosed with any other disease you would not be telling me that it is "all in my head". If you would, well you are rude.

I will accept apologies in the form of check, cash, or Neccos.

Colorado here we come!

Mom and I were so lucky to be able to go to Colorado to help Avery celebrate her first birthday. The Preston's were such great hosts!! They took us anywhere we wanted, cooked up yummy meals, and it seemed that they were always picking up after us. The were even so nice to take us to the zoo on Avery's birthday. I don't really like the zoo, but that one sure was a lot of fun. The giraffe that tried to eat Kadence started things off right!
Here are some fun zoo pictures....

Thanks for all the fun times! Please let us come back some time soon.

Happy 1st Birthday to Avery!
It is amazing how fast we went from this:

To this:

We call Avery our Sweet Pea. She really is sooooo sweet. She loves to give hugs and kisses and loves to cuddle. Avery has always been easy going. We thought for her first week of life that she wouldn't be as wild as Kadence, but she has proved us wrong, Wrong, WRONG! Avery has been walking for 2 months now and has now moved into the fast walk/running/climbing stage. Everywhere we go people are facinated with how crazy she is and how fast she is. Needless to say at the end of the day I am completly worn out! Avery loves her sister, loves to say Dada and Mama and Baba. She will eat just about anything and smiles all the time. We are SO blessed to have her in our family and to have Ma, Aunt Lindsey and Noelle here to help celebrate her first year. We love you to the moon and back crazy girl!

Visitors!

Boy were we excited when last Tuesday evening a car pulled up with two of our favorite people inside: Chandler and Brianne! Kadence ran out of the house saw them in their car and started screaming in excitement! It has been confusing not seeing family all of the time like we used to. Chandler and Brianne stayed with us until Friday morning and all of us soaked up every second. Here we are above Helen Hunt Falls overlooking Colorado Springs.

A big shout out to Chandler who kindly carried 3 of Kadence's babies up to the top so Kadence could take a picture of them. Thank you Thank you Thank You for coming, PLEASE come back soon!

So much going on!

Three!

Happy 3rd Birthday to our sweet little sassy pants! It feels like this day has taken an eternity to arrive, only because she has asked everyday for the past 3 months if it is her birthday yet. Kadence LOVES birthdays and asked months ago if she could have a "Pink Tea Party" for her birthday so when we went to UT a couple of weeks ago that is what she got!
Kadence's Ma and Aunties made her Tea Party so special with helping with her wardrobe and making her pink cupcake cake. The party was topped of by being in Midway, one Kadence's favorite places. Kadence's Ma, Aunts, 2 cousins, 2 friends and Mommy and Sister helped her celebrate. One of the highlights of her Tea Party was when she opened her Princess Dress from Ma.
It makes her smile when she wears it and bawl tears when it has to come off!
Kadence is truly our little princess and we love her so much. Some fun things to remember about Kadence when she was three years old is that she is 100% girl! She loves to dress up, wear jewelry, dance and play tea. Kadence is a little bit of a drama queen, which I guess we can blame on me. She has her daddies adventurous spirit though and is always willing to try new things and has the energy to keep up with anything and anyone. Kadence is not much for cuddling and if you ask her to give you a kiss you won't be on her good side for the moment. One thing I love about Kadence is her willingness to give compliments. I often hear her telling someone how much she loves their shirt, or hair, shoes or bracelet. She often comes up to me and tells me how much she loves my outfit and asks me where I got it. It is very sincere and so sweet. Kadence can recite her ABC's and count to 15. We recently visited the preschool she will attend this Fall and she is so excited to start going to school. Kadence reminds us often that she is the Princess, Daddy is the Prince, Mommy is the Queen and Avery is the Master. I don't know where she got that, but it cracks me up. She is a great big sister and has to be the one to greet Avery when she gets up from her naps. She loves to carry her around and help me take care of her. Kadence loves nursery and loves to help with FHE. Kadence says her v's like b's so love is lub and Avery is Abery....it will be a little sad when she grows out of that. Kadence has been really good about our move to Colorado. It was hard for her to leave her Ma and Pa. She asks or talks about them daily and loves every second of visiting. Kadence loves her Aunts and Uncle and Abby and I know all the love she is shown makes her the happy girl she is.

I brought Kadence home from the hospital on Mother's Day 3 years ago today and now I get to celebrate my little Princesses 3rd Birthday on Mother's Day today. I feel blessed that we get to have her birthday celebration around Mother's Day to remind me of the incredible day I became a Mom. Love you to the Moon and Back sweet girl! Happy Birthday!

DC Party

I just thought you guys would enjoy some evidence that Kristen and I did party in DC together yesterday and that we did in fact see Kelly Rippa.
